With the summer sun back in Central Oregon, finding a place to “chill” outside is a must.

Backporch_Coffee_Roasters_photo-by-Casey-Husk.jpgWith both a front and back porch, Backporch Coffee Roasters is the place to be. Not only is there seating in the sun, that seating is about as close as it gets to the college for an off-campus establishment.

Backporch Coffee is located on Newport Avenue right next to Newport Market.

Backporch has a new age feel with a simple serving system and a variety of seating options. Simply order at the register, find a seat, then pick up the “joe” when it is ready.

There is both indoor and outdoor seating with standard tables and a bar with larger stools, just for those that prefer a seat above the rest.

Dave and Majell Beach opened Backporch Coffee in 2006 in order to serve perfectly roasted and brewed coffee. Like other coffee shops, there is a wide variety of roasts to choose from, but Backporch offers the much enjoyed French press method of brewing.

Backporch Coffee Roasters sells their coffee around town at places like Newport Market and Whole Foods as well as online off their website at backporchcoffeeroasters.com

Along with coffee, Backporch serves tea, also French pressed, from Cascade Tea Company, chocolates and chai from My Chai, and light pastries from Sparrow Bakery to snack on while baking in the sun.

With time between classes a close spot to relax in the summer sun with the perfectly brewed roast is as good as it gets. Enjoy the coffee and the sun but don’t forget the sunscreen.
