They won their first game 5-1 against Mt. Angel this Saturday after their exciting 3-3 tie against Western Oregon University last week.
In fact, COCC has had a strong foundation of a soccer team since the 70’s.
This year the team remains undefeated thus far. Their next game is against the University of Oregon, at team which won the Club National Championship two years ago and was runner up last year.
They will play at COCC on Saturday Oct. 18 at 1:00 pm.
This year’s team includes international and out-of-state players as well as local soccer heads.
The team includes players from Nepal, Puerto Rico, Hawaii, Switzerland, Mexico, Missouri, and local Bendites.
Coach of seven years Scott Milum said, “we have a strong team this year but the team will really show itself in the harder games against UO and OSU.”
The turnout of over 30 players this year is the most Milum has ever seen since he has been here.
This gives him the opportunity to see more talent and makes for a stronger team.
He wants to involve as many people as possible but also wants a strong team.
Because recruitment does not happen here at COCC, players are limited.
This provides the opportunity to play for students who really want to play as they balance school, work, and soccer as opposed to NCAA players who have scholarships and tailored schedules.
The team plays in one of two conferences during fall and spring in the College Club Soccer League started by former COCC coach, Claudio Muggia, and is now coordinated by the current coach Scott Milum.
COCC, OSU, UO, and WOU are part of the southern conference. Reed College, Portland State University, Lewis and Clark, and Mt. Angel are part of the northern conference.
The top two teams from each conference go to the playoffs. During the winter, the team plays in a local indoor league in Bend.
